Ports of Auckland published its new port development proposals for public consideration.
Tony Gibson, Ports of Auckland CEO said: “ We’ve spent the past year listening to feedback from Aucklanders and advice from experts, and have come up with a new, more efficient, more compact development plan .
“ Auckland’s population will increase by up to 1 million people over the next 30 years, and as it grows so will the amount of freight we need to import and export.
“ We think our new proposal creates a pretty good balance between the need to cater for Auckland’s growth and the community desire to preserve our natural assets. We hope Aucklanders will agree. ”
“ Auckland’s port is a strategic economic asset for the whole Auckland region, facilitating over $12.5 billion in trade and 187,000 jobs. Whether you live in Parnell or Panmure, Devonport or Drury, the future of the port matters to you ”, said Mr Gibson. “ I hope people from across the region will take the time to have their say ” he added.
