The New Jersey Water Supply Authority hosted a Public Hearing pursuant to Executive Order 172 in Franklin Township, Somerset County, on Monday, May 13, 2013.
The purpose of this meeting was to gather public input on the proposed dredging of the Delaware and Raritan Canal, Kingston to Amwell Road.
The Project will remove an estimated 240,000 cubic yards of sediment from the Canal to increase flow capacity. The estimated cost of the project is $35.5 million.
The D&R Canal is a source of drinking water for millions of residents in central New Jersey and provides various recreational opportunities. The dredge design will take into account surrounding cultural and natural resources and address water supply needs of the area.
The Authority presented the dredging methodology proposed to be undertaken. The Authority also presented information concerning environmental considerations for the Project.
