The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) plans to undertake the largest-ever dredging project in its 30-year history, reports eximin.net.
This very important development program will support the implementation of the RoRo ferry project connecting Ghogha in Bhavnagar with Dahej.
Regarding these plans, H C Rajpal, the head of GMB’s mechanical department , stated: ” This is the first time GMB is creating terminals in the sea. Over 3 million cubic metres of dredging will be required to make this project a success. We have never undertaken such a large dredging project in our history.”
Rajpal also added that this dredging program will create new channels in the Gulf of Khambhat that will be about 100 metres wide and the length of about 4,300 metres at Ghogha and 6,000 metres in Dahej.
According to infrawindow.com, dredging is scheduled to commence after the monsoon and is expected to be wrapped up in six months.
