Represenative Dan Maffei (D-NY) announced that the Army Corps of Engineers will dredge Little Sodus Bay harbor in Fair Haven as part of relief efforts to restore damage following Superstorm Sandy.
Little Sodus Bay has not been dredged since 2005 and the Army Corp of Engineers has determined that dredging is necessary due to damage from Sandy. Since taking office in January Maffei has continually pushed for dredging for Little Sodus Bay harbor. His office worked with the Army Corp of Engineers and the Village of Fair Haven throughout the review process and he urged them to approve the dredging. Dredging will begin in early 2014.
“ I am pleased that the Army Corp of Engineers has approved dredging for Little Sodus Bay, ” said Rep. Dan Maffei. “Little Sodus Bay is an important economic anchor for Fair Haven and for our entire region. We must make sure that our waterways and harbors are properly maintained so that local businesses can thrive and continue to attract tourists and new business to our region. I will continue to do everything I can to make sure Fair Haven and all of Central New York gets the support needed to protect our vital natural resources and to preserve our local water infrastructure.”
