After the heavy rains and high water stopped the upper Hudson River dredging program last week, this capital cleanup project resumed on Monday, according to newstimes.com.

The dredging work on the multi-year Superfund project continued on two areas north of Albany, announced General Electric Co.

The historic dredging project targets approximately 2.65 million cubic yards of PCB-contaminated sediment from a 40-mile stretch of the upper Hudson River between Fort Edward and Troy, New York.

At the end of the 2012 dredging season, the project was nearly half-way to its target with more than 1.3 million cubic yards removed since the project began in 2009.

The dredging goal for 2013 is 350,000 cubic yards. The rest of the cleanup is expected to take three to five more years to complete.
