The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District invites the public to comment no later than Tuesday, July 23, on a draft feasibility report and environmental assessment (EA) for the “Boise River at Eagle Island Ecosystem Restoration Project,” according to District planning officials.
The Corps will host a public open house to discuss the study’s findings on Thursday, June 27, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boise Watershed Environmental Education Center, at 11818 West Joplin Road in Boise, Idaho. Project staff will be available to answer questions.
The Corps, in cooperation with the Boise River Flood Control District No. 10, the Ada Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Idaho Foundation for Parks and Lands conducted a study to assess the feasibility of environmental restoration along the Boise River near the upstream end of Eagle Island, in Ada County, Idaho. The study area includes the Boise River and adjacent lands between the Glenwood Street Bridge and the Eagle Road Bridge.
River flow control, irrigation diversions, flood control projects, gravel mining, and land development have negatively affected the floodplain in this area. The project goal is to preserve, restore and improve the ecosystem in and around the head of Eagle Island to a more naturally functioning and self-sustaining state.
