The U.S. House of Representatives last night passed the FY 2014 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill, with the support of Alaskan Congressman Don Young, on a vote of 227 – 198.
This legislation appropriates money for the Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program and the Department of Energy.
“ This Energy and Water Appropriations bill will deliver much needed funding for operations and maintenance for harbors throughout Alaska, many of which require constant dredging to ensure continued operations. The funding will also ensure that the Denali Commission can continue operations providing energy projects and bulk fuel storage facilities to the most remote communities and villages, ” Rep. Young said. “ This bill demonstrates the House’s commitment to eliminate wasteful and costly government spending by appropriating $2.9 billion below the Fiscal Year 2013 enacted level and $4.1 billion below the President’s budget request. In these tight budgetary times, the House continues to pass fiscally responsible legislation that will put this country back on a sound economic track, and I was pleased to support it .”
