Legislation sponsored by Assembly Democrat Marlene Caride to commence flood control projects along the Passaic River Basin was approved by the full Senate. The measure was approved 37-0.

“ Since early 2012, New Jersey has seen the worst in ravaging storms and flood damage, ” said Caride (D-Bergen, Passaic). “ The severity of the weather is not only a concern, but also the frequency of the storms and rain which makes it extremely difficult for homeowners and businesses to recover efficiently.

Caride explained that the intent of the legislation is to begin flood control projects desperately needed in Passaic County to maintain the Passaic River Basin. The legislation will fund dredging in areas including North Arlington, Lyndhurst, Rutherford, East Rutherford, Wallington and Passaic.

“ There will be more storms and rain causing more flood damage. We must do what is necessary to anticipate and plan for these storms to curb the damage. This funding will help us alleviate and minimize any future flood damages to our towns and communities along the River, ” added Caride.
