The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, awards a contract for dredging at Manistee Harbor in West Michigan.

The $473,366 contract was awarded to BayShore Contractors, LLC of Grand Rapids, Mich. The firm will dredge 24,500 cubic yards of material from Manistee Harbor and deposit the material south of the harbor in the near shore area for beach nourishment. Coal, sand, salt and general cargo are transported through Manistee Harbor.

The work also includes sand removal at the Holland Harbor federal navigation project North Revetment. The sand removal work will address structural concerns and remove an additional source of material contributing to shoaling of the navigation channel. The work is expected to begin in late July and be completed by mid-September.

“This contract helps the Corps of Engineers fulfill its important obligation to maintain the Great Lakes Navigation System for the benefit of commerce and our nation’s economic strength,” said Lt. Col. Robert Ells, district engineer. “ We are pleased this important work can proceed.”
