According to the latest AmericasBarometer survey, the Panama Canal Authority is considered one of the most trusted institutions in Panama.
The survey is coordinated by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The Panama Canal has a 69.8% trust index, right below the Catholic and Evangelist Church.
“We feel proud that Panamanians trust in the Panama Canal Authority’s workforce. They make this accomplishment possible ,” Panama Canal Administrator Jorge L. Quijano said. “Our commitment is to continue improving the Panama Canal’s service to the maritime industry, which will benefit our country.”
Last week, PortMiami kicked off its Countdown to the Panama Canal 2015 campaign with a flag exchange between the U.S. and Panamanian officials that heralded the coming Post-Panamax era as one of the most important things to happen in shipping in the last century.
Ambassador to the U.S., Mario Jaramillo, and Panama Canal Authority V.P. Rodolfo Sabonge joined Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and PortMiami Director Bill Johnson in heralding the opening of an expanded Panama Canal just two years from now.
Johnson said PortMiami as the first port of call on the Asia-to-US route via the Canal, will be the only Atlantic Seaboard port south of Virginia with a channel deep enough to accommodate the new generation of larger container cargo vessels that dominate the Asia-U.S. market.
