Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced support to ensure that small craft fishing harbours across the country remain operational and productive. He was accompanied by Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and Tilly O’Neill Gordon, Member of Parliament for Miramichi.

“Safe and efficient harbours are vital to the economic well-being of fishing communities across the country,” said the Prime Minister. “ The support announced will ensure that harbour facilities support the livelihood of commercial fishermen, contributing to jobs and economic growth in Canada’s coastal communities.”

This support, through Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Small Craft Harbours (SCH) Program, will allow for more than 100 major construction, repair, maintenance and dredging projects at core commercial fishing harbours across Canada, as well as various minor repair and redredging projects at additional fishing harbours throughout the country.

In New Brunswick, 21 major maintenance, repair and dredging projects, as well as several minor repair and redredging projects will take place across the province.
