Philippines: TUPAD Program Includes Dredging

An initial estimate of 1,317 families displaced by typhoon Labuyo and the tropical storm Maring-enhanced Southwest monsoon in Central Luzon will benefit from the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) Program of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

“ TUPAD is an emergency employment undertaking of our agency wherein the head or member of an affected family will perform community works in exchange for a stipend allowance equivalent to existing minimum wage rates for a prescribed number of days, ” DOLE Regional Director Raymundo Agravante said.

It shall first be implemented for five days at a rate of P336 per day to identified priority targets in the municipalities of Dinalungan and Casiguran in Aurora which were devastated by typhoon ‘Labuyo’ and in the towns of Macabebe, Masantol, Minalin, Sto. Tomas, San Simon, Apalit, Sta. Ana, Floridablanca, Guagua, Lubao and Bacolor and City of San Fernando in Pampanga which was inundated by severe flooding caused by the Habagat.

This program will include work on include sandbagging, dredging, street cleaning, estero cleaning and de-clogging, canalization jobs…

“ An initial budget of P2,200,650, in form of salaries to be paid to the target beneficiaries, was allotted for the project of which P1.5M will directly benefit 900 marginalized workers in Aurora while the remaining P700,650 will benefit 417 marginalized workers in Pampanga, ” Agravante added.
