U.S. Senator David Vitter made the following statement after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced their tentatively-selected plan for the West Shore Hurricane Protection Project.
“This is disappointing – the locally-preferred alignment would have offered a lot more protection for a lot more people for the same price, ” Vitter said. “ Quite frankly, President Obama is breaking his promise he made to the region when he visited in September 2012.”
The Corps announced their “tentatively selected plan” for the West Shore Hurricane Protection Project. The alignment they have chosen protects fewer parishes than a separate alignment that is preferred by local officials.
In April, after President Obama released his budget, Vitter blasted the president for zeroing out funding for the West Shore.
