The public will have an opportunity at an upcoming public meeting to discuss a proposal to place dredged material (solids removed from the bed of any surface water) from the Menomonee River as part of a stream restoration project.

This project is proposed by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. The MMSD is planning to improve the Menomonee River channel near 45th St. in the city of Milwaukee by removing 1,100 lineal feet of concrete and sediments from the channel as part of a stream restoration project.

According to the selected disposal alternative, the dredged materials (up to 3,500 cubic yards) will be disposed of on property located within the city limits of Milwaukee and owned by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District.

The Department of Natural Resources is required under s. 289.54(2), Wis. Stats. to hold a public meeting before it can approve a request to dispose of dredged materials. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 10, at 3:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Headquarters located at 260 W. Seeboth Street, Milwaukee.
