The Port of Geelong dredging program is expected to commence in March 2014, reports abc.net.au.
The tender process will begin during the next month, and the Victorian Government plans to invest $5 million in this cleanup project.
“The Port of Geelong has a very strong future. It’s a job creator. It’s an important part of the economy of Geelong and this investment, this multi-million dollar investment, in deepending and widening the shipping channel, will allow even larger ships to come in here to Geelong ,” said Denis Napthine, the Premier of Victoria .
The dredging will create new job opportunities in the region, stated David Hodgett, the Ports Minister , and added: “So this is great news for Geelong. It’s great news for the Port of Geelong here and the Napthine Government will continue to invest in our ports.”
The Port of Geelong dredging project will meet the requirements of the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), informs abc.net.au.
