The Cumbria County Council has invited bidders to submit their offers for the Port of Workington dredging project.

The main goal of this cleanup program is to remove recent accumulations of waterborne material from the approach channel, turning basin and dock at the Port of Workington, to the profile, levels and tolerances, and to dispose of all material arising within the limits of the designated licensed areas.

The tender deadline is September 13, 2013.

Background

Having recently secured over £5.7 million pounds of investment through the Britain’s Energy Coast initiative, the next few months will see the Port undergo major regeneration and the implementation of new and improved services.

The arrival of a new harbor mobile crane, extensive improvements to the Ports facilities and the introduction of a weekly scheduled feeder container service to Rotterdam, will provide a truly sustainable end to end logistics option for businesses in Cumbria and beyond.

The changes will see Workington become a major player in the European multi-modal logistics arena.
