The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announced today that the comment period for the draft report regarding the Jacksonville Harbor Deepening Study has been extended to October 24, 2013.
The extension gives the public additional time to review updated information in the draft report. This extension will not impact the signing of the Chief of Engineer’s report scheduled for April 2014.
A public meeting will be held Tuesday, September 24th at the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal, 9810 August Drive to discuss recently updated information for the Jacksonville Harbor Deepening Study. The meeting will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and will include a formal presentation and official comment period.
The District is conducting a study to increase the depth of the existing federal channel along the St. Johns River from its current project depth of 40-feet to a maximum depth of 47-feet. The extent of this deepening would occur from the mouth of the St. Johns River to approximately River Mile 13. The study also includes detailed information regarding all environmental considerations such as salinity effects, mitigation, shoreline erosion, sea level rise, confined blasting, etc.
