Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. announced that FEMA has awarded $1,833.961 in federal funding to Middlesex County to repair the beach, dunes and groins at the Old Bridge Waterfront Park damaged as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
This area sustained significant damage during Sandy and this FEMA funding, which will pay for 90% of the total project cost, will work to restore the area to pre-storm conditions.
“This critical funding will bring us a step closer to rebuilding the Old Bridge Waterfront Park, and help restore normalcy in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, ” said Pallone. “ We still have a long way to go to, but I am pleased to see that there is positive movement toward rebuilding from the storm.”
The work for this project has been divided into two geographical sections. Section 1 will include installing 54,400 cubic yards of sand to the beach, repairing the dunes by placing 4,630 cubic yards of sand with plantings for erosion control, and repairing the groins by installing handrails and fixing damaged concrete. Section 2 will include installing 5,500 cubic yards of sand to the beach.
