The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, awards a contract for dredging of Lexington Harbor in Sanilac County, Mich., located about 20 miles north of Port Huron, Mich.
The $334,000 contract goes to MCM Marine, Inc., Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The firm will dredge 40,000 cubic yards of material from the harbor and place the dredged materials near shore for beach nourishment. Dredging is expected to begin in mid-October and be complete by mid- November.
“The Corps is pleased that funds are available to dredge Lexington Harbor, which will support jobs in the village of Lexington by boosting recreational boating and the charter fishing business,” said Lt. Col. Robert Ells, district engineer . Lexington Harbor is one of seven dredging contracts to be awarded using part of the $5.9 million the state of Michigan committed to the Corps last spring for shallow-draft, recreational harbor dredging.
The contract was awarded under the Corps’ Multiple Award Task Order Contract, MATOC, which the Detroit District established with 10 companies capable of dredging in the Great Lakes. The MATOC is designed to provide greater flexibility and expedite the bid solicitation-award process for dredging in Great Lakes commercial shipping channels and harbors.
