Florida’s port directors presented the Florida Ports Council Economic Visionary Award to Florida Governor Rick Scott yesterday at the American Association of Port Authorities Annual Convention in Orlando.

The award is a special recognition of the historic investment in Florida’s ports and freight mobility by Governor Scott to create jobs and grow Florida’s economy.

“ Governor Scott has a thorough understanding of economics, both public and private, and a vision for how to achieve the best future for Florida ,” said Bill Johnson, chairman of the Florida Ports Council and the port director for PortMiami . “ We are honored to recognize the unique and invaluable leadership that Florida has with Governor Scott.”

“ The Florida Ports Council created this one-time accolade to highlight the historic levels of commitment to seaport and freight infrastructure, which will be a catalyst for Florida’s economy ,” said Doug Wheeler, president and CEO of the Florida Ports Council. “ Governor Scott is truly an economic visionary that understands that ports and trade equal jobs.”

The convention, which is hosted by Port Canaveral this year, was attended by maritime, business and logistics leaders from across the globe.
