Congressman Tom Reed was in Dunkirk Friday with a group of local elected officials and community members discussing ways the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) can help jumpstart waterway projects, particularly dredging, in Chautauqua County.

The legislation includes provisions that will help New York’s 23rd district with flood prevention, navigation improvements, combat invasive species and enact environmental restoration.

“Supporting jobs, cutting red tape, and streamlining water projects are all areas of common ground our communities can agree on ,” Congressman Reed said. “From Dunkirk and Barcelona Harbors to Chautauqua Lake, Lake Erie, and Cattaraugus Creek, we have significant waterways our local economy depends on. I am proud to be in Dunkirk to stand with the community and work together to see how we can bring these projects to fruition .”

Many community members joined Congressman Reed in Dunkirk including Dunkirk Mayor AJ Dolce, Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards, and Chautauqua County Legislator George Borrello who all spoke on the bill’s merits.
