The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has announced the details about the Savannah Harbor Jones Oyster-bed Island Improvement project.

This development program will include rise of the front perimeter dike of the Jones Oyster-bed Island Dredge Containment Area (DCMA) for approximately three feet.

The front dike, which parallels the Savannah River from north-west to south-east, is estimated to be 24,930 feet in length, and approximately 300,000 cubic yards of material from the interior of the DCMA will be required for the raising.

The project will also include an option to improve one of the existing bird islands, or construction of a new bird island within the DCMA.
