On November 8, CHEC held the signing ceremony of Walvis Bay container terminal EPC contract in Windhoek, capital of Namibia. Li Yi, general manager of CHEC Angola Management Center and Bisey Uirab, CEO of the Namibian Port Authority signed the contract on behalf of respective sides.
With a contract value of 300 million US dollars and a construction period of 36 months, the contract covers construction of a 600m container terminal berth as well as relevant auxiliary facilities like yard, road and railway.
With an annual handling capacity of over 1 million tons, Walvis Bay is a good deepwater port in the central west of Namibia as well as the only of its kind on the coastline stretching 3,000 kilometers from Lobito, Angola to Cape Town of South Africa. As Namibia’s most important logistics hub, the port handles 90 percent of Namibia’s sea cargo.
The project’s signing marks a major breakthrough of CHEC in the Namibian market, laying a solid foundation for its future development in Namibia. Local mainstream media paid close attention to the project progress and covered the signing ceremony elaborately, thus boosting the local influence and popularity of CHEC brand.
