Several measures are being taken to promote the inland waterways in the country, announced pib.nic.in.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister of State for Shipping Shri Milind Deora said that the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has undertaken Integrated National Transportation Waterways Grid Study through the consultant M/s RITES. 31 priority terminals have been identified for potential development with inter modal connectivity in National Waterways, the minister pointed out.
The development and regulation of waterways which are declared as National Waterways come under the purview of Union Government and it is the responsibility of the respective State Governments to develop other waterways.
