The Shem Creek dredging project is currently underway, according to moultrienews.com.
Regarding this cleanup program, which commenced last week, Eric DeMoura, the Mount Pleasant Town Administrator , said: “ The increased depth of Shem Creek will directly support our commercial fishing industry, improve the access to our public park, allow a wider navigation channel for larger boats, and be beneficial to all water related activities that will ultimately support residents, local businesses along the creek and our tourist industry. ”
The heavy siltation in the creek causes navigation difficulties for the boaters, reports moultrienews.com.
This nearly $970,000 cleanup project, undertaken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will last no longer then 45 days.
