On Thursday 23 January, the 5,500m³ trailing suction hopper dredger, DCI DREDGE XXI, was handed over within the contractual delivery date to Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) at IHC Merwede’s Kinderdijk shipyard in The Netherlands.

The Protocol of Delivery and Acceptance was signed on behalf of DCI by Mr YSR Murthy.

IHC Merwede designed, engineered and built the DCI DREDGE XXI in The Netherlands. The company was selected on the basis of its reputation for high quality and the reliability of the timely deliveries of all other trailing suction hopper dredgers to DCI.

This is the third and final vessel in a series of three, preceded by the DCI DREDGE XIX and DCI DREDGE XX that are already operating successfully in India.

The DCI DREDGE XXI and her sister vessels are capable of performing, among other tasks, maintenance dredging jobs on the Hooghly River, which is a tributary of the Ganges River in West Bengal. These new trailing suction hopper dredgers are specially designed for this project, taking into account the Hooghly River’s soil properties, strong current and shallow depth.

DCI’s dredging vessels will have the capability of delivering high productivity, reliability and efficiency, as well as low-power consumption and operational costs.
