The most technically challenging phase of the Darwin Harbour dredging program is wrapped up, INPEX announced.
This stage of dredging included the removal of tough rock at Walker Shoal, reports abc.net.au.
“Walker Shoal was a large, if I could use layman’s terms, hill on the seabed, that was positioned virtually in front of East Arm Port, ” said INPEX general manager Sean Kildare .
The main goal of this program was to allow vessels safe passage to and from the Blaydin Point LNG plant.
The Walker Shoal rocks were not visible to the ocean-going commercial trade and it presented a huge safety risk to shipping, concluded Kildare.
