Villagers of flood-hit Semo have called on Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to undertake the Semo River dredging project, according to fijitimes.com.
However, they did not receive a satisfactory answer.
“ Dredging can only be done at the mouth of the Semo River ,” he said, and added that it would be very difficult to move dredging equipment to the site.
“ We will have to look at the order of priorities of where our dredges are being used to look at the possibility of making one available to dredge the mouth of the river ,” the PM said.
Semo Village is one of the most flood-prone areas in the Western Division, and the permanent solution of these problems is relocation of the village to higher ground, reports fijitimes.com.
