Dredging of the lower portion of the Ashtabula River, which will vastly improve navigation, is set to start in mid April, according to Starbeacon.
The project State Rep. John Patterson, along with Ashtabula City Manager Jim Timonere, announced in August 2013 that the state’s Controlling Board approved $70,000 in funding from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to dredge a portion of the Ashtabula River near Brockway Marina.

“ The dredging that these funds will provide for is much needed and will allow for easier access to our Great Lake ,” said Rep. Patterson in a recent press release.
“ It is also an example of the good that can come of public and private partnerships. I am proud of the work we all did in making this project a reality. I believe this project will bring a much-needed boost to local tourism, which will in turn provide a positive impact on both the local and state economies for years to come. I look forward to seeing this project move forward and am happy to support these efforts. ”
Delays caused by EPAs permitting process postponed the dredging project which was scheduled for the fall of 2013.
