The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, to conduct work in waters of the United States in conjunction with work on Interstate 84 in Waterbury and Cheshire, Connecticut .

The project purpose is to address current and future highway congestion on I-84 and associated ramps, and adjacent intersecting roadways.

Connecticut DOT proposes widening (adding a third travel lane and full width shoulders in each direction) and safety improvements to a 2.7-mile section of I-84 extending from Washington Avenue, east to Pierpont Road in the city of Waterbury, including the realignment of the highway in the vicinity of Harpers Ferry Road (Interchange No. 24) to eliminate the existing sharp reverse curvature, and interchange reconfiguration within the project limits.

Work is proposed in wetlands/waters of the U.S. located adjacent to I-84 in Waterbury and involves excavation/fill in wetlands/waters, including relocation of portions of streams crossing under I-84, and culvert rehabilitation along I-84 in Waterbury (state project No. 151-273) in association with widening/reconstruction.
