Port of Victoria officials and Victoria Fleet LLC recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the New Port Barge Fleeting Terminal.
The development of the fleet terminal is a public/private partnership between the Port of Victoria, and Victoria Fleet, LLC, an affiliate of Devall Towing and Boat Services of Hackberry, LLC. This project was designed by Urban Engineering with construction by Affolter Contracting Company, Inc.
The fleet terminal services will be operated by Victoria Fleet.
“This project will add additional business opportunities at the port,” said Victoria County Navigation District Chairman Robby Burdge . “There is great interest in moving oil and products along the waterway, and this new project is added infrastructure to help create new business.”
Construction is expected to be completed by July, 2014. Once completed, 50 inland barges will be able to dock along the fleet terminal which will have approximately 1800 feet of frontage and will be dredged to a depth of 12 feet.
The new terminal will be a secured area in accordance with United States Coast Guard regulations, and will offer barge fleeting services, shifting, and inland boat support.
