U.S. Sen. David Vitter, along with U.S. Reps. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.), accepted an invitation from the Department of Treasury for a briefing on concerns surrounding the development of regulations necessary for full implementation of the Resources and Ecosystem Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies of the Gulf Coast States Act of 2012 (RESTORE Act).
“ After the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill devastated the Gulf Coast, no one felt the effects more than the citizens of Louisiana. The Obama Administration is responsible for carrying out the RESTORE Act, and yet Louisiana citizens are still waiting for the critical funds needed to help ease the strain of this disastrous event and to jumpstart a variety of ecological and economic restoration projects along the coas t,” the Members initially wrote to Treasury. “ The Obama Administration is effectively denying relief by failing to complete the RESTORE Act regulations.”
On April 15, 2014 Vitter, Scalise and Cassidy wrote to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew raising concerns about the process taking too long to develop and finalize regulations pursuant to RESTORE Act.
