Construction of the much-anticipated Leeville Boat Launch will begin next week, with completion projected for late October.

The $1.1 million recreational facility will be located at the site of the old Leeville draw bridge. The first phase will accommodate about 60 trucks with boat trailers, two 30 ft.-wide concrete ramps and a kayak launching area. Major work will include dredging, bulkhead and dock construction. Less than acre of mitigation is required.

A $487,000 federal grant from the Wildlife and Fisheries Wallop-Breaux fund is matched with $200,000 from the Greater Lafourche Port Commission and $413,000 from the Lafourche Parish Recreation fund to pay for the new boat launch.

GLPC Executive Director Chett Chiasson said: “ The Greater Lafourche Port Commission is pleased to be a project partner on this major investment in our Parish’s infrastructure, and we very much look forward to seeing more residents and visitors alike out on the water enjoying our amazing environment.”

Future plans include the addition of a fishing wharf which will be handicap accessible.
