The contract between Luka Koper d.d. and Italian company Costruzioni Generali Xodo s.r.l., which was chosen to perform the dredging alongside the Container Terminal to -14 m on the basis of the public tender, has expired today.
The management of Luka Koper assessed that the dredging company has performed in the contractual period less than ten per cent of the anticipated works (estimation on the basis of measurements).
“Because of the unjustified and drastic delay, and also because of the difficulties experienced by dredging company in the initial stages of the project, we think further cooperation with the chosen company represents a major risk, ” said Sebastjan Šik, a spokesman for Luka Koper, and added: “ The dredging project at the Container Terminal is of crucial importance for the development and growth of the containers volumes, since ship-owners are anticipating the introduction of vessels with a draft of 13 m and more in autumn this year.”
“ The management of Luka Koper has therefore taken all the necessary actions to ensure that the dredging will be completed until August ,” concluded Šik.
