Brazil plans to spend $384 million in 2014 and a further $1.1 billion in related maintenance over the next 10 years.
The ports that are on the list for dredging are: Santos, Rio de Janeiro, Mucuripe, Suape, Recife and Niteroi.
Dredging would allow larger and more efficient vessels to access the ports.
