Yesterday, Mr Shahjahan Khan, Minister of Shipping, and H.E. Gerben de Jong, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, officially launched the Urban Dredging Demonstration Project.
The main objective of the UDDP project is to reduce the floods in Dhaka by:
– demonstration of Dutch urban drainage technologies and expertise;
– improvement of the capacity of DWASA staff to carry out drainage operation;
– development of stakeholders awareness and knowledge of the functions of the urban drainage system.
The UDDP activities are initially concentrated in two area’s in Dhaka, effecting approximately 400.000 inhabitants and many small businesses.
