May 30, 2014, marked the end of a 6 month dredging project in Stevenson’s Creek, Clearwater, FL.
Gator Dredging (the United States Army Corp of Engineers approved dredging contractor for Stevenson’s Creek) has successfully completed their hydraulic dredging project as part of the extensive effort to enhance water quality and remove sediment build-up in the Stevenson’s Creek Estuary.
The project scope consisted of dredging of approximately 105,000 cubic yards of sediment from the canal. “Reach 1” called for the removal of 63,000 cubic yards of muck/sand material. This encompassed an area approximately 1,700 linear feet long, to a depth limit of -3.5 feet NGVD. “Reach 2” included the removal of an additional 42,000 cubic yards of muck/sand material for approximately 1900 linear feet, to a depth limit of -2.5 feet NGVD.
Gator Dredging successfully developed and executed USACE approved material management plan that processed the dredged material and transported the separated sediment to designated disposal sites. This process included placing dewatered muck material on an upland site located approximately 21 miles northeast of the project. The plan also called for the placement of clean, sandy material to be reused on location. This material created 15,488 square yards of mangrove habitat in Stevenson’s Creek Reaches 1 and 2.
Gator Dredging’s engineers developed, maintained, and restored the designated processing site and staging area located near the easterly limit of project.
