New South Wales’ ambitious infrastructure program is running at unprecedented levels as the government works to rebuild the State.
Funding for this program is primarily secured from the State Budget, which has been refocused to sustainably support the Government’s infrastructure commitments and improve frontline services, while maintaining NSW’s triple-A credit rating.
The State-funded infrastructure program includes expenditure in the general government sector, public transport PTEs, the Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct (also known as the Darling Harbour Live (DHL) project), the State-funded contribution to WestConnex etc.
NSW Budget Paper 4 ( 2014-2015 Infrastructure Statement ) identifies 651 major infrastructure projects with a combined Estimated Total Cost (ETC) of $73.05 billion over the life of the projects. Together they form a commitment for the 2014-15 Budget of $11.49 billion.
Commenting on the budget’s impact on NSW regions, the Hon. Kevin Humphries MP, Minister for Natural Resources, Lands and Water , said: “ The North Coast will benefit from $10 million over four years to deliver dredging projects in priority waterways between Forster and Tweed Heads and other locations to maintain navigation channels critical to the commercial operations of industry, commercial fishing fleets and tourism charter vessels. ”
The Budget will also deliver $3.8 million to allow the continuation of sand pumping and dredging at the Tweed River entrance, increasing safety by providing improved navigation.
