The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers aims to restart the Scarborough River dredging project, which had been suspended earlier due to contractor problems.

The Corps will be issuing a tender for the proposed work which will consist of maintenance dredging of an 8-foot-deep Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) entrance channel, a 6-foot-deep MLLW channel, and a 6-foot-deep MLLW anchorage.

The work will entail dredging about 100,000 cubic yards of sandy sediment, including 1 foot of allowable overdepth.

The dredged material would be used to rebuild the dunes on Western Beach.

Due to the presence of endangered species such as the piping plovers along the beaches the allowable dredging and disposal window is from November 1 to March 31.

The estimated value of this work is between $1 million and $5 million.
