The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will host an open house, Thursday, July 24, of the Maple River aqueduct physical model built to aid in the design of the Fargo, N.D./Moorhead, Minn., diversion channel.

The 80-foot by 70-foot model, constructed by the University of Minnesota, St. Anthony Falls Laboratory for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the cities of Fargo and Moorhead and contract engineers working on the project, allows scientists to learn how the water will flow through the aqueduct and how best to design the structure. The aqueduct is one of the components of the planned diversion channel project.

The Fargo, N.D./Moorhead, Minn., diversion channel project includes constructing a 36-mile long diversion channel in North Dakota that will direct flood water around the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area.

When built, the project will provide flood damage reduction for more than 200,000 people and 70 square miles of infrastructure in Moorhead, Minn., and the North Dakota cities of Fargo, Horace, West Fargo and Harwood.

The open house is free to the public and will be held at UMore Park, 15325 Babcock Ave. E., Rosemount, Minn., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
