The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is set to present a long-term solution to prevent future floods in Bangkok to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Seventeen projects will be proposed to the NCPO in a bid to maximize the effectiveness of the existing flood control system. These projects have been hand-picked from 66 projects earlier proposed to the previous administration.

The 17 projects set to be implemented over the span of 15 years are reportedly worth nearly 24 billion baht. The plans will be proposed as part of the NCPO’s future water management policy.

The projects including canal-dredging work, constructions of more flood barriers, and water-retention areas will help divert floodwater to the Chao Phraya River and other water sources.

Plans to build mega tunnels included in the projects will be carried out in Bueng Nong Bon and Thawee Wattana.
