The Wallace Swamp Creek Park dredging project has officially commenced, according to kenmorewa.gov.

Each summer, the city must dredge sediment and debris out of swamp creek from the pond. The creek is routed through a bypass channel, which allows workers to drain the pond and remove sediment and debris. On average, about 3,000 cubic yards of material is removed from the pond each year.

As the pond is drained, fish and other aquatic animals are captured and transported back into the creek just downstream of the pond.

“Some of the inhabitants that we often find include Cutthroat Trout, Coho and Chinook Salmon, Sculpin, Lamprey, Crayfish and Common Carp,” announced kenmorewa.gov.
