U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.), top Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), will testify today at a hearing of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard.
The hearing, “Revisiting the RESTORE Act: Progress and Challenges in Gulf Restoration Post-Deepwater Horizon,” will examine issues surrounding the implementation of the RESTORE Act.
“It’s been four years since the 2010 oil spill that devastated Louisiana, and yet the Obama administration continues to drag its feet on carrying out important responsibilities under the RESTORE Act,” Vitter said. “ Folks in Louisiana are still waiting for critical support to help ease the strain of this disastrous event and jumpstart a variety of ecological and economic restoration projects along the coast.”
Vitter was an original co-sponsor of the RESTORE Act, which dedicates 80 percent of the Clean Water Act (CWA) civil penalties paid by BP and other responsible parties to the Gulf states to restore coastal ecosystems and economies damaged by the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
