U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.), top Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), yesterday testified at a hearing of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard on issues surrounding the implementation of the RESTORE Act.
Vitter highlighted his requests to have the Department of Treasury and the Gulf Restoration Council make sure they correctly allocate the funds to the states that were impacted most.
“No one felt the effects of the 2010 oil spill more than the citizens of Louisiana. It devastated our economy, our communities, and our major industries, ” Vitter said. “I’m urging the Obama administration to get moving once and for all on carrying out this law, and to do so in a way that is fair and transparent. We can’t keep folks in Louisiana and the rest of the Gulf Coast waiting any longer.”
Vitter, along with Reps. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.), has urged the Department of Treasury to make sure Louisiana is treated fairly. Over 671 miles of Louisiana’s shoreline experienced significant oiling after the spill – more than three times the amount suffered by any other Gulf State.
