The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, has released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Village of Bald Head Island Shoreline Stabilization Project in Brunswick County, North Carolina.
The project proposal includes the construction a terminal groin structure and concurrent beach nourishment on Bald Head Island, Brunswick County, North Carolina. The primary purpose of the proposed project is to address erosion at the western end of South Beach and to thereby protect public infrastructure, roads, homes, beaches, dunes and wildlife habitat.
The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public to consider and evaluate the impacts of this proposed activity. Any comments received will be considered by the Corps of Engineers to determine whether to issue, modify, condition or deny a permit for this proposal.
To make this decision, comments are used to assess impacts on endangered species, historic properties, water quality, general environmental effects, recreation, and all other appropriate public interest factors.
Comments are used in the preparation of the Final EIS and the Record of Decision (ROD) pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Comments are also used to determine the need for an additional public hearing and to determine the overall public interest of the proposed activity.
