Starting September 15, the Training Institute for Dredging (TID) will once more hold its annual General Dredging Course.
The elaborate course comprises two weeks of intensive training, focusing on the design and operation of various types of dredging equipment. It covers basic aspects of dredging, including dredging processes, equipment selection and project management.
To link theory and practice, several excursions to the Maasvlakte 2 port expansion, nearby dredging projects and shipyards will be included.
Participants
The General Dredging Course is aimed at managers as well as technical and operational staff involved in dredging operations, such as those working for dredging companies, port authorities and consultants. The course will benefit those with a technical education, but limited experience in dredging.
The course will further improve their knowledge, resulting in more effective use of dredging equipment.
Topics and lecturers
The training will cover a wide variety of subjects, such as:
– the basics of dredging, including equipment selection, pumps and slurry transportation;
– dredging equipment (mechanical, stationary and trailing suction hopper dredgers);
– dredging projects: hydrographic surveys, environmental aspects and planning and monitoring;
– dredging costs and contracts;
– maintenance, instrumentation and automation.
Lecturers are experts from TID, IHC, the dredging industry, dredging consultants and government agencies. The course will be held from 15-26 September, 2014, at TID’s facilities in Kinderdijk, The Netherlands.
