The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has continued its city-wide dredging to ensure the effectiveness of all sewage and drainage systems and prevent flooding.
Deputy Permanent Secretary for the BMA Sanya Chenimit said that, so far, around 94% of canals and sewages have been dredged in a move to prevent floods in the city.
On Saturday, a team of BMA staff worked on sewers and waterways around the Royal Thai Army club on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road to clean up and boost the drainage capacity.
Mr. Sanya said that Bangkok has, on average, recorded 560 millimeters of rainfall this year and the city hall has already prepared staff and machinery to tackle any flooding problem when needed, with the capacity to release excess water at the rate of 60 millimeters per hour.
In order to make sure that the effective discharge of excess water, more efforts have been made to clean up the city’s sewage and drainage system, especially along all main streets in and around Bangkok where floods have regularly been reported, according to Mr. Sanya.
