Minister for Ports David Hodgett today announced three reappointments to the Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC) Board, as the Port Capacity Project continues.
Mr Hodgett said that he was pleased to reappoint Chairman Mark Birrell and Directors David Cranwell and Janice van Reyk.
“ I’m pleased to announce these appointments at a critical time for the Port of Melbourne Corporation as it delivers the largest port transformation project in Victoria’s history, ” Mr Hodgett said.
“ I have great faith that Mr Birrell, Mr Cranwell and Ms van Reyk will continue to provide the leadership needed to help navigate the massive undertaking that will see the Port of Melbourne maintain its competitive edge as Australia’s largest container and general cargo port. ”
“ The Victorian Coalition Government is committed to delivering the capacity required to accommodate future growth in Victoria’s container trade, and it is critical that this commitment is supported and advanced by a well-rounded board under the right leadership, ” Mr Hodgett said.
The Port of Melbourne is Australia’s busiest container port handling more than a third of the nation’s container trade. With trade demand forecast to double within the next 10 to 12 years, the Victorian Government and Port of Melbourne have decided to undergo a AUD1.2 billion port redevelopment project that will create 2,600 jobs in Victoria.
The centerpiece of the project is the construction of a new container terminal at Webb Dock while infrastructure upgrades at Swanson Dock will increase capacity at the port’s existing container terminals.
