Head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Mohab Mamish recently held meetings with four consortiums that have submitted their proposals for the next phase of the New Suez Canal dredging project.

A high-ranking source with the SCA said that the consortiums, including Chinese and Dutch companies, are currently vying for the opportunity to continue dredging the New Suez Canal.

The final decision on who will win the contract will be known within a couple of days.

At the moment, construction works on this giant multi-billion dollar project are progressing as planned. Workers engaged in the new Suez Canal project are working 24/7 to complete the project within ambitious one-year deadline. So far, around 30% of digging works have been completed as approx. 20,000 cubic meters of soil is being dredged per day.

The New Suez Canal project will boost Egypt’s economy and help speed up the movement of vessels through the 193 km long canal, which connects the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.
