Jan De Nul Quintet on the Mega-Project

Five state-of-the-art Cutter Suction Dredgers from Jan De Nul Group will be mobilized for the construction of the new Suez Canal in Egypt, the company reported. The five dredgers, including the world’s largest Cutter Dredger, are J.F.J. De Nul, Kaerius, Fernão de Magalhães, Ibn Battuta and Zheng He.

Five state-of-the-art Cutter Suction Dredgers from Jan De Nul Group will be mobilized for the construction of the new Suez Canal in Egypt, the company reported .

The five dredgers, including t he world’s largest Cutter Dredger, are J.F.J. De Nul, Kaerius, Fernão de Magalhães, Ibn Battuta and Zheng He. Combined they have a total installed diesel power of 106,130 kW.

The New Suez Canal dredging project was awarded to a consortium consisting of Jan De Nul Group, NMDC, Boskalis and Van Oord and will oversee the removal of 180 million m³ of dredged soil. This means around 600,000 m³ will be dredged every day.

In order to enlarge the transit capacity and to increase industrial activity in the area, New Suez Canal will be constructed next to the existing one. It will have a depth of 24 m, a width of 240 m, and will be one third in length of the current Canal.

The dredging works will start in November and are planned to be finished in August 2015.
